8. Daecheon Beach 대천 해수욕장

This area comes to life each July for Korea’s wildest, dirtiest event, the Boryeong Mud Festival – carry spare clothing. At other times it’s a great place to sample Korean seafood, and you can smother yourself in the famous local mud year-round at the Mud Center, a beachside spa.

9. Gongju 공주

A sleepy city, Gongju was the capital of the Baekje dynasty from 538 to 660. Evidence of this era still remains, most notably a series of royal burial mounds, and the thousands of pieces of golden jewelry that fill the local museum. A Baekje fortress, Gongsanseong, can also be visited here.
